a parody musical
"First things first: this is a journal, NOT a diary..."
by Anthony Graceffo & Mike Trujillo
based on a totally true diary
Based on Jeff Kinney's beloved Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, Simpy Kid is an original stage musical that parodies the characters and hijinks of the series with a young-adult twist.
The show follows narcissistic sixth-grader Greg and his loveable best friend Rowley throughout their tumultuous first week of middle school. Greg and Rowley's relationship is put to the test while Greg's older brother Rodrick grapples with his sexuality and classmates Holly and Patty take a stand against the misogyny at their school. Complete with a supporting cast of insane parents, stoner bandmates, and even the "Cheeze" itself, drama and hilarity ensue!
recommended for ages 17+
The Creators

During a low-budget student production of "Spring Awakening" at Rutgers University, Mike and Anthony hit it off. Riffing about Wimpy Kid parody songs becomes a daily bit. As the show comes to a close, the boys get serious and decide to spend the summer writing it, for real, their first full-length musical!

Mike and Anthony land the show in the "Spring Special Project" slot at the Cabaret Theatre on campus. The process is scrappy and fast. After 9 months of work, Simpy Kid makes its debut in January 2023 and it's a hit on campus. Rumors spread about the wild midnight show.

Fast forward, Mike and Anthony are finishing up at Rutgers. Mike lands the show at Villagers Theatre in Somerset, NJ as part of the Black Box series. In March 2026 Simpy goes up at Villagers for two sold-out weekends and a midnight performance. Audiences love it, from teens (who were definitely a little young to be there) to grandparents (surprise!).
